It’s another acoustic video today!
I know. I’ve been doing this a lot lately, but I have a list of about 13 more songs to record videos for, so you can probably expect a lot more from me. I have some songs that I really love, and, though I’m working on getting Icarus Also Flew – my actual debut solo album – done, it’s a long process when you’re broke and busy all the time. Recording these videos at least lets me put them out into the world without having to go through a lot of production first.
My hope is that you enjoy the songs. I know that I suck at the storytelling part for now (ironically, I guess), but I’ll get better the more of these I do… er… hopefully.
The Story…Anyway, this one, if you don’t want to stick around for my rambling explanation of it at the end of the video, was the first proper country song I ever wrote. It was written around the same time as “Show of a Lifetime,” last week’s Tuesday Tune-Up feature. That places it somewhere around 1999 or so.
I used to live in a small one-bedroom apartment back then. I worked at a guitar shop and was loving my early twenties. I decided one night to try and write an old-school country song, and “The Superman Song” was what happened. I don’t remember a lot about the process, other than I liked the idea of the speaker (person from whose point of view the song is being sung) making comparisons between himself and all of these great artists throughout the verses.
I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know what you think!
Well, there you have it.
