Mantra Monday: Barely…

There’s a line from Firefly that’s a bit relevant lately.

“When you can’t run anymore, you walk. When you can’t walk, you crawl, and when you can’t crawl, you find someone to carry you.”

I’ve been busy lately, and this page is suffering for it. I apologize if you’ve been looking here for inspiration and not finding it. I don’t have a whole lot to say for tonight other than keep going. Whatever it is, if you want what’s at the end, keep going.

Perseverance, Determination, and Tenacity

Those are the three words I would use (in adjective form, though) to describe myself if I had to pick three. To put it plainly, I ain’t got a lot of quit in me. I hate giving up. I hate walking away and leaving things unfinished.

That said, every once in a while, there comes a time when something just doesn’t make sense anymore. You have to consider the cost vs. benefit in nearly all situations.

Balance, Health, and Peace of Mind

Let’s take this “part-time” job I picked up which is zapping all of my energy and time and making it very difficult for me to get my client work done let alone my regularly scheduled Brandonia writing.

Now, as a freelancer, my rate is over five times what this job pays. The problem is, I don’t have enough steady work to sustain myself just yet, so I need something to supplement the writing. I also have a lot of other commitments during the week that are important to me personally (the gym, helping my dad, rehearsals, etc.).

It doesn’t make any sense for me to spend more than a few hours a week doing that job when most of my needs are met by writing and I have other things I’d much rather be doing – like trying to grow my own business, get a full-time teaching job, go to the gym, hang out with friends, or rehearse with the band. All of those things are worth more to me than minimum wage.

I say all of this as a way of saying I’m beat after these last couple of weeks, but I should be able to stay on track this week.

In Other News…

Still hitting the gym three times a week. On that I will not compromise. Current fitness milestones: I am now running 2.5 miles three times a week. This week I’m doing the 30-minute express after my run, then next week I’m going to start the Nerdfitness 4A Gym Workout, which I’ll explain when I get to it. I also figured out this week that I would pass the Air Force PT test if I were still enlisted, so that makes me happy.
