New Music, Writing, and Site Design Coming in the Next Few Weeks
Hey all. Just finishing spring break in this crazy, crazy year. For those who used to read my stuff all of the time, I’m so sorry that I haven’t posted anything since August (I think – WordPress is acting buggy on me and I’m writing on a Chromebook I bought for less than $100 at a pawn shop months ago).
I could use all of that as an excuse for not posting in eight months, but as Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) said, “Now I’d like that… But that shit ain’t the truth. The truth is…”
The truth is I started a new job with a very steep learning curve in late August, and I have still been working my other writing job for Space.Porn (Please take some time to check that site out if you’re into space and astronomy. It’s NOT A PORN SITE. We just call it that because it’s fun.) I’m also teaching as an adjunct instructor part time, so yeah, my plate’s been pretty damn full.
Then COVID-19 happened. We’re all locked in our homes. Turns out I can’t really use that as an excuse either, because I already work from home and barely ever leave (except to go to bars/concerts/events in the evening – which I really miss). And if anything, being locked at home should be the best thing for a writer.
On the other hand, I’ve had to re-think all of my curriculum because my students’ living situations have changed, and I’ve also had to deal with the throbbing general anxiety that we’re all dealing with right now. So forgive me if I’ve indulged a little too much in Red Dead Redemption 2, World of Tanks, and Forza Horizon 3. Oh yeah, and if I’ve been falling down YouTube rabbit-holes about self-defense.
Speaking of Self-Defense…
The single best thing one can do for self-defense, I’ve found, is to GET IN SHAPE! And I’m decidedly not in shape at the moment. See, in addition to letting the site slip as my priorities shifted, I also let my body slip. I stopped going to the gym somewhere around November and started briefly again in February, but fell off as I had a hard time making it work with my full-plate of jobs. Again, it’s not that I don’t have time – it’s that my priorities shifted.
Now it’s time for them to shift again. I’m getting back into the shape I was in last year and further. Because I can’t go to the gym for a while, I’ll be using my punching bag, two 25 lb dumbbells I bought years ago, a yoga mat, and my running shoes. Oh, and my bike. No gym required. Though, I really do miss the ritual of going to the gym. It was like my little 2 hours of Zen each day. Maybe I can recreate it at home. We’ll find out. I’ll do my best to post some articles and videos about sparring work with a bag for fitness.

About the Site
I had another domain name for this site, and I thought it was renewed, but it turns out its not working right now, along with a lot of pages (at least on this crumby Chromebook I’m using). I’m finally in a position where I can afford a better computer, so that’ll be here on Wednesday and I’ll start doing some serious fixing after work. I don’t really want to change the look of the site so much as just making sure it works.
However, if you do web design and you want to give me some pointers in the comments section, I’d love to hear your ideas on how to make Brandonia better!
